Lactoferrin comes from colostrum, the first milk that is produced at the start of the milking season. It is a richer, creamier form of milk that is higher in lactoferrin than the later milk. Our lactoferrin is then carefully purified and tested for purity.

Lactoferrin has many unique functions in early nutrition and development:

• Protecting digestive function: it blocks bacteria and viruses in the gut from entering the body. It also protects the intestine’s ability to absorb nutrients.
• Supporting the gut microbiome: it has a prebiotic effect on the developing gut bacteria
• Supporting immunity: both of the above give the immune system a head start. Lactoferrin also stimulates special cells in the immune system, called T-helper cells.
• A source of iron: lactoferrin, as its name suggests, is also an absorbable iron form and the main source of iron in breastmilk. Iron is critical for growth and development.

Lactoferrin derived from cow’s milk has been shown to reduce symptoms of upper and lower respiratory infections [2], as well as preventing illness from gut parasites such as Giardia [3].

Lactoferrin has also been reported to lower the digestive symptoms due to gut virus infections in children, including reducing the frequency of vomiting and diarrhea [4-5].
