Co-Founding and Technical Director
Tom van Wunnik is one of the technical directors at Max Biocare. He has been involved in Research and Development in natural formulations since Max Biocare was established in 2000.
Tom is also a qualified Naturopath with over five decades of experience within the natural health industry. His passion for natural medicine began in 1968 when he opened his first clinic in Melbourne, specialising in Natural Therapies, Nutrition, Iridology, Remedial Therapies. Tom has been a member of the Australian Natural Therapist Association (ANTA) since 1968.
Most recently, Tom has continued to practise as a Natural Therapist in a clinical setting, keeping in contact with current health issues. He values the importance of innovation and formulates new health products to suit the needs of the community. Tom is passionate about expanding his professional knowledge and keeps up to date with industry changes and latest scientific research through the attendance of conferences and seminars.
In addition to general health and wellbeing areas, Tom has a particular interest in:

Head of Research & Development
George Thouas is an experienced biomedical senior scientist, with nearly two decades of experience in academic research. He heads the Research and Development team, overseeing new product development projects for different health conditions at Max Biocare.
George completed his Bachelor of Biochemistry and Human Anatomy degree at Monash University. Having found his passion for scientific research, he furthered his education with a Doctoral degree specialising in cellular physiology and development. In his career as a research scientist, George has worked on research projects that include clinical IVF, reproductive and developmental biology, stem cell biology, molecular immunology, tissue engineering and biotechnology. He has authored and co-authored over 50 publications including a text book, book chapters, over 30 peer reviewed papers and several conference proceedings.
With his extensive background in scientific research, George has a special interest in developing formulations for male and female reproductive health, general health conditions that include musculoskeletal function, metabolic balance and immunity.

Leilani Paller, BSc (Agr)

Leilani Paller has close to 20 years of experience in Science and Quality Assurance. At Max Biocare, Leilani specialises in preparing technical dossiers, ensuring product compliance with the TGA’s regulatory standards, and checking manufacturing and packaging specifications.
She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at University of the Philippines, with a major in Agriculture (Animal Nutrition) in 1997. In 2000, Leilani furthered her education by completing postgraduate studies in Animal Nutrition. She commenced her career as an Animal Nutritionist at a manufacturing company in the Philippines. From 2007 to 2015, Leilani worked as a Quality Assurance Officer and Associate at Probiotec Pharma Pty Ltd. Her responsibilities included quality assurance and control, auditing batch documentation for product release and preparation of master formulation for products.
Leilani is passionate about her work at Max Biocare because she is able to use her extensive experience in Regulatory and Quality compliance.

Diana Newman, BHSc (Nutr Med), MNutr

Diana completed her undergraduate in Nutritional Medicine in 2012, followed by a Master Degree in Human Nutrition at Deakin University. Her thesis looked at the effects of digital health interventions on improving dietary behaviour in adults with type 2 diabetes. In clinical practice, Diana has worked with patients to improve cardiovascular health, hormonal imbalance, gut health and digestive disorders. Since having her twin girls in early 2019, Diana’s nutrition interests and expertise have extended to prenatal, babies and children’s health and nutrition.

Ben is an early career researcher and associate of the Research and Innovation Platform within the Max Biocare Institute. Since his graduation in 2016, Ben has worked exclusively in research and development across industry and academic settings within the medical and health sciences field. He has expertise in quantitative translational projects and specialises in nutrition, natural products and lifestyle medicine. With a developing record of 5 peer-reviewed publications and multiple conference proceedings, Ben brings to Max Biocare his passion for the advancement of natural product science and its role in contemporary healthcare.

Chidkamon Tonkan, BPharm, MBA

Regulatory Affairs Associate
Chidkamon Tonkan has a background in pharmaceutical science, with more than 10 years of industry experience. In her role as a Regulatory Affairs Associate at Max Biocare, she is involved in new product development and documentation for product registration in different countries.
Chidkamon completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy in 2004 at Chiang Mai University in Thailand, with a major in Pharmaceutical Science. In 2016, she completed her Master of Business Administration at Central Queensland University. Chidkamon has transferred her knowledge from theory to practice through two internships in the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation and Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital, Thailand’s best known domestic brand of herbal medicine. She commenced her career as a Pharmacist, working in community and hospital pharmacies in Thailand, including Queen Sikirit National Institute of Child Health. In 2007, Chidkamon joined Boehringer Ingelheim as a Medical Representative, specialising in cardiovascular disease, where she collaborated with healthcare organisations, presented clinical research and answered enquiries from healthcare professionals.
Having found her passion for health and wellbeing, Chidkamon enjoys applying her pharmaceutical knowledge and experience to complementary medicine, a class of therapeutic goods. She is dedicated to her work at Max Biocare because it allows her to use evidence-based approach and further develop an in-depth scientific and technical knowledge of healthcare products.

Justine fuses her qualifications and knowledge in health science and dietetics with her experience in marketing and communications to develop and implement strategies that help Max Biocare connect, engage and impact.
She has worked in-house, in-agency and as a freelancer across the health, wellness, hospitality and food industries and is well-practiced in strategy development, content creation, events and influencer relations. She specialises in social media marketing and is passionate about crafting meaningful conversation, creating relationships and building loyal communities.
Justine translates complex health and nutrition science into consumer-ready evidence-based communications. She stays ahead of the curve, keeping up-to-date with the latest trends, news and science.

Research and Development Associate
Mark Waddingham is an experienced research scientist with a special interest in health conditions that include obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. He joined Max Biocare in 2016 as a Research and Development Associate to work with the team on new product development projects.
Mark completed his Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree at RMIT University in 2010 and subsequently undertook a PhD research scholarship at the University of Melbourne in 2012. In his PhD studies, he examined the mechanisms that drive the development of heart disease in individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This research yielded several peer-reviewed publications in international journals. Mark has also presented his research findings at numerous national and international scientific meetings.
