How is it produced ?

Wellmune® is made using a special proprietary process that maintains the natural structure of the glucan particles, with minimal disturbance. This results in a form that is stable in storage, easily digested and maintains its activity in the body for longer.

How does it work ?

  • Keeping their immune system responsive: special cells in the intestine recognize the glucans and pass on signals to the rest of the immune system, instructing them to ward off foreign challenges in the body, including respiratory viruses.
  • Intestinal health effects: some forms of good bacteria in the toddler’s gut, such as Bifidobacteria use beta-glucans, so they can have a prebiotic effect.
  • Digestive function: beta-glucans are a form of non-digestible fibre, so they also contribute to helping with bowel regularity.

What does the research say?

In a clinical study of toddlers (1-4 years) in a daycare setting, children who were given Wellmune® showed a reduction in the incidence of respiratory symptoms, and the number of sick days by about 50%. Wellmune® usage also resulted in a significant reduction in the need for antibiotics by more than 60% [1].

Similar effects have been reported in two other clinical trials on children [2,3], with benefits such as an absence of diarrhea, reductions in signs of allergies, and fewer sick days absent from school. These trials also included Wellmune® as a milk formula nutritional ingredient, demonstrating its usefulness in liquid nutrient supplements.
